Body slender and elongate, with well defined lateral processes. Cephalon comparatively short, with the frontal part slightly projecting and expanded in the form of a collar round the base of the proboscis. Abdomen cylindrical, erect. Proboscis nearly cylindrical, truncate at the anterior end. In adults there are neither chelifores nor palps, though the juvenile six-legged and early eight-legged forms have long, slender chelifores with a small chela at the tip.
Ovigerous legs in male only, with seven segments.
Ambulatory legs long and slender, with well developed auxiliary claws.
