Body squarest, having a hard, rough integument, sparingly furnished with hair. Proboscis extending more or less straight forwards, smooth.
Ocular tubercle obtuse. Chelifores and palps lacking.
Ovigerous legs very small, nine-segmented, with simple spines and terminating in a powerful claw; present only in males.
Ambulatory legs comparatively short and robust, with the tarsus very short, terminal claw powerfully developed, as a rule without auxiliary claws. A single pair only of generative openings in either sex, on the 2nd coxal joint of the last pair of legs.
Egg-mass simple, cake-shaped.
